Joyce A. Robinson — Railroad Engineer, Author, and Safety Advocate
Joyce A. Robinson is a passionate railroad safety advocate, author, entrepreneur and former locomotive engineer whose groundbreaking 28-year career with Conrail and Norfolk Southern made history.
She was the first woman to operate freight trains out of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.
As the founder of Railroad People Inc., Joyce transforms her love of the rails into a creative mission that connects education, history, and inspiration. Through her company, she produces children’s books, activity books, puzzles, and merchandise that celebrate trains, railroad heritage and safety awareness for young readers.
Joyce’s dedication to service began early. Growing up in Harrisburg, she attended the Girls Club and later became a lifetime member of Girls Inc. She also volunteered with Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Capital Region.
Joyce brings her railroad experiences to life through school visits, museum programs and train-safety presentations, where she inspires audiences of all ages to dream big, stay safe, and follow their own tracks to success.
Beyond the rails, Joyce is a 5th-degree black belt in Isshin-Ryu Karate. In 2022, she was inducted into the Pennsylvania Karate Hall of Fame, reflecting her lifelong commitment to discipline, leadership, and empowerment.
